I’m not a writer. I’ve worked hard all my life. I’ve made many mistakes that were serious. I’ve made decisions that have caused most of my family to spurn me. I’ve done many good things before and since. I’ve served my country honorably as a United States Marine. I have always loved the fact that in the Marine Corps, or probably the other services, though I can’t say from experience that all Marines are GREEN. In the Marine Corps, there are those that truly “drink the Koo-lade” as it were, and really internalize all the things that the Marine Corps is truly about. While I have certainly fallen short in some aspects with my choices, I have to say that my belief that everyone is the same as another no matter what their skin color, race, creed, sexual preference, sex, or frankly any other physically defining factor. I know Marines who think that for some reason a Marine who is Black, or Asian, or Muslim, or Native American, or a whole range I’ve probably forgotten to mention here are somehow substandard, or less than. To those Marines and to those people who are not Marines I say one thing. “He who lives in a glass house, be careful of the rocks that can be thrown.
Everyone makes a choice, Lead, Follow, or get out of the way. While no organization whether it has 2 people, or 2 billion people can have too many leaders without followers. Everyone seems to think they lead well, and that’s their only option. There are also those who just want to complain and patter to folks that “if only others woud…..” that they know who things would be better. Insert Politicians Name. Then there are the ones who can’t maintain a consistent opinion and will just go along to get along and make excuses unendingly about how no consequences from their action or inaction were their fault. Those are the folks who are just like the civilians in Germany during WWII. The followers are the ones who when the worm turns will find that those who wish to take others’ freedoms to please themselves and their goals, will take theirs without even giving it a 2nd thought. Choose to lead. Choose to follow. Either way do valid research before you make that choice. Listening to some idiot via the Internet, or someone on the TV, or some other form of media who touts their opinions or the opinions of those they support without “Knowing” the truth just makes them the next in line for a Darwin Award.
